Summer Fest In Downtown Oneida Is Almost Upon US

We are so close I can hear the music, the mechanics of the rides, the kids laughter and smells of all of the great food that will be served. Summer Fest will be just what the community ordered! A fun family event that all ages can enjoy. The hours are 10am to dark with a fireworks display for the finale. Bring your husbands, wives, children, friends, neighbors, and anyone else you can think of who likes to have a good time!

Some performances will include Belly Dancing by our local belly dance troupe Adi Shakti World Fusion and talented, emerging local musicians. Tickets for kids rides are $3 for 5 rides or $5 for rides all day. We will be featuring side walk and tent sales by local businesses and a car show on Main Street.

We want to thank all of the Oneida Businesses that donated their time and money to make this event happen! Have a safe and fun Independence DAY and we will see you next Saturday during "SUMMER FEST".

Hello everyone!
Just wanted to give an update on our progress for Summer Fest. We seem to be moving forward, but still need artists and crafters for our Arts and Crafts Fair during Summer Fest. If you have not already downloaded the application, you may do so by going to http://www.oneidacommons.com/ Go to where it says "Downtown Association" and click on it. We are still accepting Applications!
If you feel that your items would fit better in our Flea Market you can also download the forms to participate in the Flea Market on July 10th by going to the same site and downloading the information.

In order to make this successful we need the community and all of our members support. We can't do this alone! Please help us revitalize our downtown and our community connection!

Meeting Minutes April 22, 2010
Call to order: A regular meeting of the ODA, was held in Oneida, NY on April 22, 2010. The meeting convened at 6:38pm, Chairman Terry Karst presiding and Becky Karst acting Secretary in Kirsten Tudman’s absence.

In attendance: 11 attendees

Approval of minutes: Motion was made by Marty Winchell and seconded by Dave Tudman to approve minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.

Not for Profit issue was discussed. Elise Allen’s husband Doug is an attorney and will file the necessary papers on our behalf. Elise met with Cassie Rose and Cassie Rose thinks we may be eligible for funding thru the Main Street Project.

Discussed the membership fee issue to join ODA. Consensus of opinion is that $30 per year is insufficient. Leaning towards $100 per year.
Committee reports:

Flea Market: May 22 – September 25. No program for Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day weekends. Elise to finalize the posters, adding Bike Night on Freight Alley to our advertising.

“Back Door BBQ and Bike Cruising”: George and Elaine received approval from the city to hold this event on Freight Alley. Common Council said it was not necessary to ask permission to hold this event. Elaine will collect the sales tax certificates from their vendors. Start date: Thursday, May 20th – 5-8pm. Press release to be prepared. Shannon will add this event to the ODA website.

Elise will do a weekly press release. This is a free service on the event page in the Dispatch.

Signs: Dave Tudman recommended we have the logo from the t-shirts printed and added to our signs and change the ads by hand every week.

Elise gave us an overview of how she sees this whole project pulling together. She has a very detailed grasp of where we’re going with this.

We need to make the applications for this event available and we need sponsors. The final application is on the Market at Oneida Commons website.

Shannon signed her first artist for Summer Fest 2010 - Robin Hines. Shannon said everything is in place for the applications and rules and guidelines.

Fundraising: Marty has received our first donation from the Oneida Savings Bank - $500. A donation letter will be going out shortly. Businesses Marty has contacted are:

Alliance Bank, Gates Cole, Bailey and Haskell, Shannon and Shay, Hinman’s, Oneida Print Shop, Chase, Kay Real Estate, Marion Cierek, Wilbur Duck, Pop A Top, American Legion

Not for Profits for the Saturday event: Home and Garden

Becky Karst to make phone calls inviting businesses to set up as soon as a date is chosen. Businesses mentioned were Ferris, Big Earl, Dan Jones, Maintenance Man, Karst Tree Service

Ken Drake talked about Keith Sheible (sp) of VVS’ FFA. He said Keith put together a community day that was semi spectacular. He might be worth talking to.

ODA's 2010 Events

The Oneida's Downtown Association is committed to promoting Oneida and all that it has to offer. As a result, we are hosting several events that will be starting in the month of May. We are hosting a 16-WEEK SERIES OF EVENTS to create a downtown destination this summer. A weekly DOWNTOWN FLEA MARKET WILL RUN ON MOST SATURDAYS FROM MAY 22nd thru SEPTEMBER 25th. The Flea Market will be held in the Cedar Street Parking Lot (behind the Kallet Theater) every saturday from 10am to 5pm (excluding holiday weekends). Vendors can sell their wares for only $15 per parking space (early registration price), while FARMERS AND BAKERS ARE FREE! (more information about being a vendor can be found @ http://www.oneidacommons.com/- listed under Downtown Association).

*SPECIAL EVENTS WILL COMPLEMENT THE FLEA MARKET EVERY WEEK.

This one day event will include sidewalk sales by downtown businesses, kids rides, the Flea Market, local food a juried Arts and Crafts Fair, a Car Hop, Fire Works and more. Meeting Minutes April 15, 2010

Call to order: A regular meeting of the ODA, was held in Oneida, NY on April 15, 2010. The meeting convened at 6:31pm, Chairman Terry Karst presiding and Kirsten Tudman, secretary.

In attendance: 14 attendees

Approval of minutes: Motion was made by Shannon, and seconded to approve minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.

Chairman’s report: Terry discussed the July 10th SummerFest (see separate sheet). We need to pay City for use of the parking lot, $100. for the whole season. City has a banner, they are looking for it, and we may have to purchase one. Linda Bailey will research cost.

Need to research how to get not for profit status.

Discussed a need for a membership fee to join ODA.

Committee reports:

Flea Market: schedule for volunteers was passed. Trying to draw in different groups for demos. Non for profit can raise money with food sales and can drives. Local businesses can have sales/specials. Please volunteer and hang flyers in your business.

Ideas: theme Saturdays: strawberry/apple/pumpkin/zucchini fest, chili cook-off,

Shannon has updated the windows with K-2 pictures.

Kids Art Project In Downtown Oneida is now on Display

The Kids Art Project is now on display in downtown Oneida.
Kindergarten through second grade will be showcased in 3 windows from April 8th until April 30th.

The kids work looks great and really helps dress up our downtown windows. The Project will continue through the end of this school year.
The month of May will feature 3rd and 4th grade art work and June will finish out the school year with our 5th and 6th graders art work.

All of Oneida's Elementary Schools are participating in our "Windows of Opportunity" program. Oneida's Downtown Association would like to thank all of the Elementary School Art Teachers for their help and support of this new program.

Please take a drive or walk down Main Street to see our kids creativity at its best!

You may also find an application for The ODA's Flea Market at the above website.

The Flea markets will begin on May 22, 2010 in Oneida behind the Kallet in the City Parking Lot. The Flea Market will continue throughout the summer on every Saturday (except July 3, and Sept. 4.) The hours of operation are 10am-5pm weather permitting. More information will be posted.

Chairman’s report: Terry discussed the July 10th SummerFest. Terry has set up a PO Box for ODA. We voted on letterhead.

Treasurer’s report: xxx in bank, $9 cash from raffle, $76. Spent on PO Box and $10 spent on blog address.

Kids Art Project In Downtown Oneida

The "Windows of Opportunity" program will be changing displays in the downtown windows.
We are happy to announce the "Kids Art Project" that will feature art work from all of our local Elementary Schools here in Oneida. The displays will rotate in and out from April 9th through Mid June.

The first group of displays will feature Kindergarten through second grade....followed by third and fourth grade and finishing with all of our fifth and sixth grade students.

We hope you take some time out of your busy schedules to appreciate our young and talented artists growing up in our community. If you have any questions or comments about this upcoming project please feel free to post in the comment box below.

SUMMER FEST ARTS AND CRAFTS

RULES & ELIGIBILITY

Artists in fine art and craft disciplines are welcome to apply. No commercial agents, dealers or manufacturers may enter. This is a juried show and all work must be original, and designed by the artist. The following categories are not acceptable: cut bottles, embellished objects and ready-made clothing. NO BUY-SELL OR COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS! We are committed to assuring a quality show of the highest standards.

Show management has the right to accept other types of exhibits on a very limited basis including gourmet specialties, seasonal plants/herbs or other items that may compliment the overall theme of the event.

Artists or an approved assistant agree to be present during show hours, and will show only their own work in the category in which they are accepted. If you wish to share a booth with another craftsperson, you each must submit an application and go through the selection process to be accepted.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

All artisans will be juried by show management and a jurying committee. Notification of acceptance or denial will be mailed by May 21st. A waiting list will be created once all booths are filled. Please send 5 clear photos of your art work or craft with 1 photo of your booth display. Sharp accurate color reproduction is important and blurry photos will not be accepted. Please put your name on the backs of your photos.

Higinbotham Park in downtown Oneida is the location for the Arts & Crafts section during Summer Fest. This is an outdoor location and there is no electricity available. All tents used by exhibitors must have a current fire inspection tag on them. If your tent has not been inspected there is an additional $10 fee to have it inspected.

Security

This is a one day event and there will be no overnight set up. All setups will be scheduled in the morning between 7:30am and 10:00am. The Arts & Crafts Show hours will be 10:00am to 6pm. Because this is a one day event we advise exhibitors to bring displays that are easily set up and taken down. Security will be provided during show hours only. We assume no responsibility for damage, theft or loss of exhibitor work, personal property or display. All exhibitors must carry their own insurance.

Sales Tax

Exhibitors must have a valid state sales tax certificate. Tax certification processing may take up to six weeks. You may submit an application without a tax ID, but you must have your certificate before you can participate in the event. Booth Displays

You are required to provide a self-contained display. Backdrops or enclosures, such as drapes, panels, walls are required. If using a tent it must be flame retardant. You may not use any stakes or securing devices that may cause damage to the cement or black top areas.

Summer Fest in the works

Our group has been setting the ground work for a Summer Fest here in Oneida. The Date is July 10, 2010. The details have not been completely ironed out yet, but I can tell you that this event will be a great fun filled family day that will be well worth marking down on your calendar.

Please check back on this site for further details within the next couple of weeks.

Our next meeting is this thursday March 18th, 2010 at 6:30pm and will be held at Thompson's Appliances on Madison St. here in downtown Oneida. We welcome any new attendees who would like to become members or who would like to just sit in on a meeting to get a feel for what our group is about.

We hope to start posting our meeting's agenda on here before each meeting followed by the minutes. This site was created to help keep all group members as well as the public informed of what we are doing and what events we will be setting up to help grow our downtown and community.... so bear with us as we move forward with the development of this site.

Chairman's report: Windows of Opportunity; Terry and Shannon met with the city. Windows are OK for now, will look at changing the ordinance.

Oneida's Downtown Association was formed to help revitalize the Downtown Business District of the City of Oneida. We have a core group of volunteers who have dedicated themselves to creating and implementing programs that are helping to promote the new growth and development of our City and Community.
We always welcome new members and their ideas. So if you would like to attend one of our meetings they are held every 1st and 3rd thurday of each month at 6:30pm at Thompson's Appliances on Madison St. Oneida, NY.
